The Power of YET
The power of yet.
We live in a world where we are constantly looking to be perfect at something.
The media..... the movies.... the magazines.... constantly throwing what we think of as "perfect" is being thrown in our faces ALL THE TIME.
How many times have you thought.... "gee if only I was skinnier/prettier/funnier/smarter" ?
I know I've said it, multiple times a week... it's so hard to break out of this cycle.
Trust me, I know.
There has been a movement in education for the last few years.... we call it "Growth Mindset"
It's a powerful thought process - it makes you change your focus from not being able to do something to this idea of I'm just not able to do something yet....
For example... instead of saying "I'm not good at math" I would say something along the lines of "I'm not good at math, yet"
As a teacher, but more importantly as a mom, this has become a new staple in my language.... and it's starting to pay off.
My daughter (3) has been found saying, "yet" ... like "I can't do that, yet... but soon mommy, soon with practice I can!"
Can you imagine how much different the world would be if we all changed our mindset to "yet"?
I can't do that yet, but I will be able to soon.
